Hello everyone,
This is David Kim, and I’m excited to officially join ArbaLabs as our new voice for content, strategy, and thought leadership. Through this blog, I’ll be sharing regular updates, insights, and travel dispatches that follow ArbaLabs’ journey through global deep tech ecosystems — from Europe to Asia.
To kick things off, ArbaLabs recently traveled to Riga, the capital of Latvia and one of the most under-the-radar innovation hubs in Northern Europe. Riga is a stunning mix of old and new — cobblestone streets, ornate art nouveau architecture, and a growing ecosystem of founders, researchers, and government programs backing frontier technologies. The city has real energy, and a clear intention to become a home for next-generation innovation.
The visit was timed around Deep Tech Atelier, Latvia’s flagship event for scientific entrepreneurship and applied research. The conference brought together startups, VCs, research institutes, and policymakers with one shared goal: turning deep tech into real-world impact. It was clear that Latvia is investing heavily in bridging academia and industry, with a strong focus on space technologies, sustainable systems, and advanced computing.
ArbaLabs has long believed that meaningful innovation happens at the edge — geographically and technologically. What we saw in Riga reinforced this. Latvia may be small, but it punches above its weight when it comes to technical talent, early-stage support, and cross-border ambitions.
Over the coming months, we will be traveling through other key regions in Europe and Asia, documenting what we see, who we meet, and how it connects to our mission: building tools for edge AI and edge computing systems — especially in critical domains like aerospace, and environmental monitoring.
